Upon the passing of his parents, Ruby & Calvin Fletcher, Jeffrey inherited a small collection of artifacts and memorabilia they had collected over their lifetime. The items together told the tale of their lives, and the lives of countless other African Americans. Over the years, the collection has grown in both scope and size, and in October 2021 The Ruby and Calvin Fletcher African American History Museum opened its doors in Stratford, CT.
The Ruby and Calvin Fletcher African American History Museum is dedicated to the telling of the struggles, as well as the triumphs, of African Americans throughout history. Come walk in the shoes of many of our African American ancestors. Immerse yourself, as you walk with our ancestors. See America’s history through the eyes of those that have gone before us. Learn to recognize the warning signs, so that history will never be repeated. The museum was developed primarily to educate, but more importantly, to afford everyone an opportunity to see historical and cultural artifacts up close and personal.
“I can show you better than I can tell you.” Ruby Fletcher
