Attracting Birds, Butterflies, Bees and Other Beneficials with John Root

"Attracting Birds, Butterflies, Bees and Other Beneficials" is a power point presentation that describes the essential roles played by pollinators and other beneficial organisms in our ecosystem and provides guidance on meeting their needs for food, cover, and water. A variety of plants that can nourish these organisms throughout their active lifetimes are discussed, and organic methods for establishing pollinator gardens are also presented. Comments and questions are welcome throughout the program, and handouts with information about attracting beneficials are offered to participants. John will bring a selection of perennials for illustration and sale after the program.

John Root leads edible wild plant walks and lectures on a variety of landscaping and nature topics at libraries, nature centers, senior centers, and other venues throughout New England. He also promotes pollinator habitat through his participation in the Western Massachusetts Pollinator Network and is active in establishing community orchards for local food resilience as a member of Grow Food Amherst and Help Yourself Northampton. He is also a member of the Ecological Landscapers Association and is an accredited Organic Landscape Professional through the Northeast Organic Farming Association.
