Becoming an Actor: Developing Characters and Scenes: a workshop facilitated by Fred Sokol

This eight week theater session is designed to be beneficial for individuals with varying levels of acting experience. (Participants should plan on attending the entire eight weeks.) Newcomers will quickly gain basic skills while those who have often been on stage will further sharpen technique. During our time, we will feature (according to talent level and preference) improvisation and scene study. Should participants wish for more, there is potential for closing project work. Informal performance, too, might be considered. In all, the two months should be fun, meaningful and significant. This instructor taught theater for decades and directed forty-five college productions. Everything is possible and everyone is an actor!

Fred Sokol was Director of Theater Arts at American International College and Bay Path University. He was also for three decades, the theater department at Asnuntuck Community College. In all, he has directed and produced 45 shows. He is Professor Emeritus at Asnuntuck Community College. He has taught theater, film, and literature. As an adjunct professor, he taught at: U Conn, Hampshire College, University of Hartford, WNEU, and Springfield College.

Additionally, he wrote theater commentary for The Springfield Republican for twenty-five years. These days he reviews professional theater, covering Connecticut and the Berkshires, for www.talkinbroadway.com.
