Jim Malley will share his presentation People, Places, and Events in Enfield and answer questions about his book Enfield 1950-1980. The collections of photographs were taken by his father Edward J. Malley, Jr., who was an award winning photographer. He covered major news events in the region for over twenty-five years. Beginning as a photographer for the Daily News in 1955, later Malley became photo editor for three Springfield newspapers: the Daily News, Morning Union, and Sunday Republican. His sharp black and white newspaper photos usually took a local slant on Enfield. The presentation will show how Enfield was transformed from a small mill and farming community of 15,000 people to a suburban community of 45,000 today.
Jim has an extensive knowledge of the recent changes in Enfield. An Enfield native for over thirty years, he now resides in Ellington. Malley currently serves as a Social Studies teacher for Enfield Adult Education and a tutor for the Enfield Board of Education. He previously worked as a planning consultant for the Town of Enfield Planning Department. He will have books available for sale and signing.
