Opera Adventure with Mike Cascia: Mefistofele

Mike Cascia will show and lecture about the complete opera movie, Mefistofele by Italian composer Arrigo Boito. The story of the opera is based on the two part play Faust by the famous German author Johann Wolfgang von Goethe. The plot involves an old man who has spent his life in pursuit of knowledge and disgusted, sells his soul to the devil to regain his youth and to experience all he missed in his original life span. Faust and the devil (called Mefistofele in the novel and the opera) have many adventures which makes for a fascinating experience. The opera is filled with one glorious melody after another with plenty of chorus, love affairs and pageantry.

Mefistofele will be part of the Metropolitan Opera repertory for the 2018-2019 season, but it will not be seen at the Met HD Cinema broadcasts. Here is a chance to see this rarely performed opera.
